GANNON UNIVERSITY NASH LIBRARY MODERNIZATION

The Nash Library Modernization project included a complete redesign of the existing facility to accommodate the changing functions of a university library. The library has become the focal point: a place to socialize, to work collaboratively, to connect the community to technology and knowledge, while continuing to be the source of information.  Two new entrances were added to the north and south ends of the building to replace the original side entrance and walls of windows replaced the dark enclosed spaces. The 87,400 square foot building provides a variety of spaces for study including tables, lounge-type furniture, private study carrels, and group study rooms with state-of-the-art technology.

The library features 49 study and collaboration rooms, three “flex” rooms to accommodate meetings and larger groups, a coffee and snack shop, a 28-seat computer lab, 30 computer workstations, a digital recording studio, upgraded outdoor courtyards and patio. Gannon has also moved its Writing and Research Center, and S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) Success Center from the Palumbo Academic Center to the library. There is a green roof where environmental science and biology students will be learning. Many other “green building” strategies were employed throughout the design.
